Zakat ul-Fitr is an obligatory charity on every Muslim male or female. The head of household should pay Zakat ul-Fitr for their dependents such as children (including a baby on the way), servants and any dependent relatives. The amount payable is approximately 5 lb. of staple food in the relevant country or an amount of money that is equivalent to the price of the food. The dollar amount is approximately $15.00 per person for us here in Boulder.
